From our other sites

The chapters of this book are derived from lectures given to our second year Medical Students in the Medical Microbiology course.  At present, there are approximately 70 chapters in the book, only a few of which are password-protected. Extra chapters will be added throughout 2001. We shall also be revising most chapters during the year, adding new links to additional web resources and adding questions that will test your knowledge of Microbiology and Immunology.

Please let us know whether you find this site useful and also please inform us of any corrections that are necessary. There is an e-mail link for this purpose at the left.

Throughout the various chapters you will find words that are underlined. These are terms that may be unfamiliar to some readers. Click on the word and you will obtain a definition from the On-Line Medical Dictionary. The On-line Medical Dictionary is © Academic Medical Publishing & CancerWEB.

Each HTML chapter is an expanded version of a lecture given to our Medical Students with links to other sites.

In many cases, the lecture is accompanied by lecture notes in a Portable Document File (pdf) format indicated by . To print out these notes, you will need Adobe Acrobat version 3.01 or higher. Get Acrobat Reader free here

Some chapters are accompanied by PowerPoint-HTML slide presentations indicated by or by down-loadable PowerPoint files indicated by . Depending on the number of illustrations, the size of the PowerPoint files varies but some are very large and may take an inordinate time to download over a modem and phone line. If you do not have PowerPoint on your computer, you may download a free PowerPoint viewer here

Some chapters contain molecular structures that are only visible using a plug-in called Chime. You will need to install Chime by downloading it from this site.  You can see a list of our Chime molecular modeling pages here

The movies associated with this site use Flash. Macromedia Shockwave Player 8 (includes Macromedia Flash Player 5) can be downloaded from this site
